Bed bugs are devious little critters that feast on you in your sleep. They aren’t fast and don’t really just lay out in plain sight for you to see them. But they do leave marks and residue. So if they are present. You might not see them. But you will know that they are there.
In this article, we will go over what attracts them. So you can be sure that you aren’t welcoming these vermin in your bed/home.
What Attracts Bed Bugs
Unlike other bugs. Bed bugs aren’t really into food and bright lights. Neither dirt or grime. They are attracted to you. Not in a loving want to be in a relationship way either.
More like a vampire needing your blood to survive type of way. Your body provides three major things vital to a bed bug. Those are the following.
- Carbon Dioxide
They love it. Even more surprising is that they can go weeks, months and even a year between feedings. Which makes them all the more of a headache. I will say if you do find out that you have bed bugs at your home in your bed. Do not freak out and go crazy.
You don’t have to burn your mattress. I mean it would defiantly kill the bed bugs. But now you’re without a mattress and that’s money you now how to cough up out of your pocket.
That you really didn’t have to spend. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying it’s free to get rid of bed bugs. But there are cheaper methods than going out buying new mattresses.
If you have the money to spend then, by all means, do what you please. But if you are on a tight budget. I have alternatives for you as well.
Junk and clutter don’t really attract bed bugs. But it does help them hide. Which isn’t really a bonus for you at all.
How Do You Attract Bed Bugs
Bed bugs believe it or not are everywhere. You can pick them up anywhere. I’ll name a few below.
- Movie Theaters
So basically anywhere a lot of people are located at any given moment or have been over time. Is a prime place for Bed Bugs. Most people think bed bugs just appear over time on their bed like it grows them or something. But that is not the case.
They have latched onto you somewhere when you were out and about and you just so happen to bring them back home with you. Remember they aren’t into food and lights. So they aren’t going for that. They want you and your blood etc.
You are in your bed for hours at a time. Not moving making you a sitting duck for bed bugs. Now that you are more vulnerable. The little friends you brought home with you know this and they come for you.
Crawling on your bed from your clothes or if you didn’t ever take them off. You basically just put them in your bed yourself unknowingly. You probably won’t notice them right away.
Because you are moving and doing other things. They aren’t going to chase you and hunt you down like mosquitos will. They strike when you are at your most defenseless stage. That being while you are asleep.
Now that they have a safe place and they know that their food comes to them. That being you. They make a home out of your bed and start to reproduce. Now, my friend, you have bed bugs a lot of them.
It can all happen just like this. You don’t have to be a dirty person at all. You just fell victim and that’s ok. You don’t have to be the victim forever. Especially after you’ve discovered that you have a bed bug problem.
Signs That You Have Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are small but you can see them. If you have trouble seeing this may not be the easiest thing in the world for you to do. But there are other ways to know if you have bed bugs. Like the following.
- Bug Poop
- Bite Marks
All of these are the signs of bed bugs. It’s no coincidence that you wake up with bite marks. You have bed bugs.
How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs
You can either pay for pest management. They get the job done. But depending on where you are in the world. It isn’t the cheapest and can be very expensive to have done.
This goes back to what I said earlier. If you have the money to spend and wish to do so.
Then more power to you. If you don’t wish to have pest management in your home and look to handle the situation yourself there are a few things you could invest for a cheaper price.

Do not put gasoline/rubbing alcohol or any other kind of home product on your bed to get rid of the bed bugs. You are now doing more harm to yourself and health than the bed bugs and have now essentially created a problem on top of a problem. Don’t do that. Either call for professional help or buy some legit bed bug killing products.
